Rutger Hauer brought to life a character over the course of a film that arrived at a certain point so perfectly that he knew his final speech, as written, was not right, it was too much. With his wealth of creative talent and conviction, he took a knife to a speech he knew was not working and helped craft what I think is the greatest monologue in film history in one of the greatest films. Of course there is so much more to Rutger Hauer than Blade Runner. However Roy Batty is his defining work for those that enjoyed his career. And with it he spoke volumes about the fragility of humanity and our short time here on earth. I’m a few days behind on this because I did not know what to write. When our heroes pass, we are reminded of their effect on us and our own humanity, and the moments that influenced us that will be lost in time…like tears in rain. Goodbye Rutger.

Goodbye Rutger.

15mm #chainofcommand British regulars vs German Panzergrenadiers both with tank support. First pic: Grenadiers take up defensive positions in the town. Second pic: British 6pdr Anti-tank gun far in the distance is routed by withering fire from three Panzer IVs. We didn’t finish the game but the British morale was slowly dropping courtesy of nasty MG42 fire. #15mm #miniatures #wargaming

Something different: 1/700 scale German Z 38 destroyer (by @revellgermany) for @warlordgames “Cruel Seas”. We decided to go smaller scale. Now just have to paint it. #cruelseas #modelmaking #minatures #wargaming

Space Hulk

Playing first game of 2009 “Space Hulk”, the original version of which I used to play many years ago. This game is against my 13yo nephew-in-law in his very first game, who rolled extremely well in rear defence wiping out genestealers left and right.

Finally got see this magnificent film last night. Stupendous. Amazing. I cheered, I laughed, I cried. Lots of crying. Twenty-two films we’ve lived with these characters, and Endgame is a tour de force for all of them. A masterpiece. #avengersendgame
